Unmittelbar nach ihrem Sieg beim 1965er Chopin-Wettbewerb, mit dem die Weltkarriere der Argentinierin begann, machte Martha Argerich diese Aufnahmen für die britische EMI. Das Repertoire entsprach weitgehend ihrem Wettberwerbs-Programm in Warschau: Die H-Moll-Sonate, das Cis-Moll-Scherzo, die Mazurken Op. 59 Nr. 1-3, die Polonaise Nr. 6, dazu die F-Dur-Nocturne Op. 15 Nr. 1. Zwei Jahre später nahm sie das fast identische Programm für die Deutsche Grammophon auf, denn deren Angebot eines Exklusivvertrages hatte sie inzwischen angenommen – weswegen die EMI-Aufnahmen bis 1999 unter Verschluß bleiben mußten. Ob das bis dahin kursierende Gerücht, die jene seien (noch) besser als das legendäre Gelblabel-Debüt, zutrifft, mag jeder selbst entscheiden – schlechter sind sie ganz sicher nicht, in manchen Passagen (der Polonaise etwa) vielleicht noch brillanter, intensiver, aber wir sprechen hier von Nuancen, und kein Argerich-Fan wird auf eine der beiden Aufnahmen verzichten wollen. 17 Jahre nach der CD-Erstveröffentlichung kredenzt der heutige Rechte-Eigner Warner Music endlich eine Vinylversion – erfreulicherweise in einer bei Industriepressungen heute seltenen Qualität, die auch Christopher Parkers tonmeisterlichem Können gerecht wird!
